Welcome to the Diasporic Movement Collective!
We are a New York City based non-profit performance and arts-education collective that teaches and performs globally. We use urban dances of the United States, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Haiti to educate and inspire.
We specialize and offer:
- Academic and studio classes at the elementary, secondary, conservatory, and university levels
- Festival & party performances with live music accompaniment
- Joint music and dance workshops for children and adults
- School assemblies with live music accompaniment
*Dancers and affiliated musicians boast national and international performances at: Pier Verger Foundation in Salvador, Brazil; Rockefeller Center's Rainbow Room, Symphony Space; Ballet Austin Venture Theater; Brooklyn Academy of Music Cafe Live series; New Orleans Jazz Festival; BAM Festival Austin; Medgar Evers College Women's Week; Texas Empowerment Academy; UCLA's Royce Hall; KRON 4 News (San Francisco); Carnival Brasilera 2011, Monarch Event Center; Northwestern University Center of Global Studies, and Rio de Janiero's Carnaval.
*Our current dance repertoire includes Afro-Cuban rumba, Brazilian samba, Afro-Caribbean salsa, funk styles (poppin), jazz, soukus, Dominican merengue, abstract, and African hip-hop.
